okamotoi is known in Japan as Okuyama Giboshi, the “hosta from Okuyama,” It is named for the collector Shogo Okamoto who found it in the shady valleys of Mount Okuyama near Chii-mura, Kyoto Prefecture, Honshu. This species is similar to longipes but has longer scapes, more widely spaced flowers. Plants belonging to this species have attractive purple petioles and scapes making them interesting to hybridizers.
